Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

It has been snowing all morning. And not like lame, wimpy snow. We're talking heavy-duty, white-out, I can't see my neighbor's car, blizzard. It is awesomely gorgeous. So can you tell I love snow? What I'm looking at outside my window right now has to be the prettiest sight I've seen since about two months ago, when I looked out and saw nothing but red trees all over the mountains. Seasons, you gotta love them! I want to cry for my family and friends in California, Arizona and Texas, who have two seasons year round: really hot and sorta hot, and who have to throw on their coats when it's 65 degrees out. I just feel for them, for what they're missing out on. My Burbank-native sister Jacqui has never even seen snow! I just shed a special tear for her. I mean, in four months, I'll probably be changing my mind again when all of the trees and flowers are in full bloom, but for today, the snow has my vote all the way. Here are some of the reasons why snow holds such a special place in my heart:

**Mila fills our backyard with "snow angels," or as I like to call them, "butt angels," because when I look out the window all I can really see are little bum indentations everywhere.

**In what other kind of weather, tell me, do you hear the following squeals from your children as you're driving to school: "AAAH, we're going to be buried alive---eeeek!" and "WHOAAAAA! There are ghosts everywhere, Mommy!" and my favorite--"Oh my gosh, Mom, I don't even want to think about what a crazy time recess is going to be today!!" Do you get to hear those gems when it's sunny? I don't think so.

**Three words: Hot chocolate, Baby!

**I get to call my friend (who shall remain nameless so as to protect her "cool person" status) on the phone first thing in the morning and give her a giddy, giggly update of our snowfall, and then continue those updates throughout the day.

**Do not even tell me there is anything more beautiful to look at this time of year than the snow-covered mountains of Utah county. Just stop trying to think of something--why waste your time?

**My children, who have come to earth with some sort of magical tastebuds in their little mouths, eat snow as if it's some kind of delicacy that is not to be missed. They eat so much with so much rapture, that sometimes I begin to think that the stuff is full of mysterious healthy nutrients that they live off for the rest of the year. That just has to be the case, because they certainly don't eat anything I put in front of them. So I guess we should just start calling it manna from heaven around here.

**I can't go anywhere. There are lots of days I don't go anywhere all day but it's ten times more fun when you can't physically GO anywhere. I'm just dying for someone to call me on the phone and invite me to something so I can say, "Oh, I'd love to, that sounds fun, but I'm all snowed in!"

**Aah, the memories. The peaceful, muffled quiet after a snowfall. The hours we spent in our backyard in Denver tunneling and making snowball fight forts and snowmen. Going tubing and wondering on the way down the hill if this was the end. Then going right back up the hill to do it again. The frozen fingers and toes that didn't seem so bad back then. Ignoring those appendages so you could stay out just five more minutes. The feeling of a warm mug between those thawing fingers. Bliss.

Well, it's been snowing for four hours straight now. Give me a call if you want--I'll be home all day!!!

Ok, so I just remembered one part about snow that I don't like. When I said that I wasn't going anywhere today, I lied just a little bit because I had to go pick up Mila from school. After getting stuck in my own driveway and sliding down the hill by our house into the intersection, I remembered that I don't like driving in snow.

But otherwise, it rocks.

You also forgot to credit me for the photography you used on your blog. That is the view from my office--yeah, baby...

Yes, snow is a delicacy. With tasty ingredients like rock salt from the driveway, mud, lawn fertilizer, cat poop, and dog pee. And no matter how many times I tell my kids that, they insist that it's delicious. Zoe said, flat-out, this morning, "That snow looks yummy! Snow is for eating!"

Just for a few minutes, I started missing Utah in the Winter. Then I walked outside my house here in TX and thanked my lucky stars I don't have to drive in that mess! Enjoy!

(Ben, I don't know what that crazy thing is, but it sure is cool)

Yes, my car won't drive in snow... But luckily, Michael drives an SUV and comes and rescues me whenever I get stuck.

But now since I live so close to the coast, I won't get nearly as much snow as I did in New Hampshire.

But it's certainly a love/hate relationship.

Oh man, I miss the snow! I'm jealous! Here in San Antonio they canceled all high school events (and mutual activities) tonight because there is a "possibility that roads and bridges might freeze"... people here have no idea what winter is supposed to be like!

I have to say it is freezing here from a cold front, and all it does is reminds me of how I don't like winter. Sorry, even snow. But it sure is pretty, I agree.

I guess you know full well how much I LOVE seasons! I was the one in California that would pull up my flowers in the "winter" because they shouldn't be there, and wore "winter" colors all fall and winter also---boy, did I get the stares...

But now, I too, am sitting at home enjoying a total WHITE Christmas outside my window. We have big fluffy flakes, also, and are supposed to get 8 inches! There is nothing more calming and beautiful than an early morning after it has snowed, and I am actually a freaky person, because I love to shovel the snow on those early mornings... Ahhhh, memories of Chicago...

I don't have to shovel here, as I am living in an apt.----but I actually miss it a bit...

As for eating snow...Aydan does the same thing, pretending that it is some kind of special delicacy...

Now....that, I think is crazy!

P.S.

I agree with Brinna----that picture on your comment is scary, Ben, but waaaaaaaay cool!

After having lived in Utah and Oregon where the seasons are fairly pronounced, I think that I would have to say that seasons are overrated. Summer is the best season. So why not have it all year around?
That being said, there are two things I like about snow. I like the way it makes things monochromatic. And, I like the way everything gets all quiet when it's snowing. Unfortunately, once it actually stops snowing that really only leaves the first one. On the flip side there is an endless list of things I like about sunshine. I vote we get rid of snow, and just keep the pictures.

OK, we got like 18 inches of snow in one day--I don't like the snow as much as I thought I did... And it is also a good thing we decided to have two driveways, otherwise we would be parking our cars on the street and then scraping snow off them in the morning--one more reason to not like snow.

Yes I'm a wierdo after all. I hate driving in the snow, true, but that's only because it's very embarassing to get stuck in a ditch.

But I am a total kid at heart, I guess, and still squeal and call everyone I know the second the first snow falls. I love cleaning off my car and shovelling snow... I even still love PLAYING in the snow!

This week I we were driving through upstate New York, through some (small) mountains. Michael commented on the huge icicles hanging from the rocks, and I said (and I kid you not) "Yummy."
